Prest-O-Fit was founded by J. David Prest Sr. in 1980 as the result of a single product, a patented universal RV sanitation fitting. Prest, a former plumber, started a plumbing contracting business in Yuma, Arizona in 1965. In 1969, he purchased a retail plumbing establishment, a natural compliment to his contracting business. In addition to plumbing parts, he also sold a small variety of recreational vehicle (RV) accessories. Prest recognized an opportunity for growth after customers continually inquired about additional RV supplies. Before long, RV parts and accessories comprised a significant portion of the store's retail sales.
It was the interaction with customers looking for RV parts that inspired Prest's idea for what would become Prest-O-Fit's first product. One of the recurring problems that his customers faced involved securely connecting an RV sewer hose to the various sizes of RV park sewer openings throughout The United States and Canada. In 1979, Prest invented, and received a patent for, a universal RV sanitation adapter that would allow any standard sewer hose to connect to all of the common RV park openings.
In 1980, Prest received a business license for Prest-O-Fit and, with the help of his wife Shirley, began operating the company out of a back room at his plumbing store. Shortly thereafter, Prest sold his plumbing business in order to devote himself entirely to his new company.
Over the years, Prest-O-Fit has continued to develop many innovative, quality products that address the unique needs of recreational vehicle users. Currently, the company produces nearly one hundred different products that it sells throughout The United States, Canada and in Europe. What began as one man's small idea has become an industry-leading supplier of RV accessories.
